Your Go-To Club

What club do you pull to GUARANTEE you carry trouble?

At Next Level Golf Academy, we want to ensure our players understand more than just their maximum distance for each club. Carry is more important when it comes to avoiding trouble. Whether it is a tee shot with a forced carry or a small stream in front of the green, players must make a confident swing when faced with this situation. This drill is designed to change a student’s perspective. The first time players try our 100-yard Go-To Club drill, they inevitably choose a club that will go around 100 to 110 yards. The problem with this approach, they soon find, is that any miss-hit will not carry into the zone and that they were swinging at max power. The solution is to take more clubs and choose a partial swing: better strikes and more distance for less effort. Imagine you were playing in a baseball stadium, and you had to hit a home run. What club would you pull to guarantee you clear that fence?

We encourage students to keep score during practice and set ambitious goals beyond their previous bests. Each drill listed below includes four difficulty levels, making it accessible for players of all skill levels to aim for improvement like never before!

Level 1 - Difficulty

Take ten shots that must carry the target yardage and remain within a 40-yard wide fairway.

Level 2 - Difficulty

Take ten shots that must carry the target yardage and remain within a 20-yard wide fairway.

Take ten shots with the same shot shape that carry the target yardage and remain within a 20-yard wide fairway.

Level 3 - Difficulty

Level 4 - Difficulty

Take up to ten shots, alternating between different shot shapes, ensuring each shot carries the target yardage and stays within a 20-yard wide fairway. Record your best streak.

The Go-To Club changes how you select shots and clubs.

To determine which distance to practice, we keep score. The total score of all levels is multiplied by the distance. The lowest value will determine your focus for practice.
